Step-by-step sushi: Roy's chef Justin Field shows you how to roll your own

/

Had enough of turkey surrounded with massive amounts of carbohydrates? How about food that is low fat, high protein and packed with nutrients? We're talking sushi.

Drum roll please: Just in time for holiday entertaining, we bring you our first-ever guide to preparing sushi.

Before we get started, let's look at some basic definitions.

Sushi is dish that has two components. The first is a vinegared rice, called shari; the second component is neta, which generally is some type of protein like raw fish. All sushi has shari. If it does not have shari, it is known as sashimi. These important facts were spelled out before we started our sushi lesson with Justin Field, executive chef of Roy's Sarasota, as our teacher.

Our objective was to add this skill to our repertoire of preparations of party food. And Justin set out to demonstrate how easy it is to prepare several different types of sushi.
