GADZOOKS! Starring Alex The Beck (Saturday)
Another gallery show from the 529 Gallery guys in Burns Court, this showcases the painted adventures of Sarasota’s foolhardiest young illustrator. Alexander Buckley Beck was raised by a creative family in Arlington, VA. At a young age, Alex chose to follow the path of an illustrator. This journey carried him southward to the Ringling College of Art and Design. Alex's work has since been featured in the Society of Illustrators group show in New York City. His first solo exhibition will feature a variety of paintings: large and small, oils and acrylics, landscapes and portraits. 5-9:30 p.m., 529 Clothesline Gallery, 529 S. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota, Facebook

Fancy Rat

Burton's Garden / Fancy Rat (Sunday)
9 p.m., Shamrock Pub, 2257 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota
Local indie music promotion machine Sarasota Music Scene was originally founded by Ed Midler, Claire Franklin and Chris Falk. Earlier this year, Falk departed SRQ after landing a new job up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Not surprisingly, he soon went on to launch KZOO Music Scene. This Sunday at the 'Rock, SMS and KZOO will unite the clans to present two of the finest specimens from each scene for a night of high-energy silly dance-tastic bliss. Falk has joined Lansing-based funky blues-rock quintet Burton's Garden on the band's current tour in support of its first full-length album "Last Night in REO Town". Fresh off playing Michigan festivals Hoodilidoo and Beaver Island Music Fest, the band should quickly become kindred spirits with its co-headliner: Sarasota's beloved Fancy Rat, also currently soaking up the successes from a recent East Coast tour.
