Bio: A “girl band” known for its spirited melodies and tribal vision, Elysian Sex Drive (ESD) has been a fixture in the local scene since 1993. Singer Kat White Star and drummer Claire Franklin are two of the masterminds behind the “Noise Ordinance” compilation, which has been a smash in the 941 for two consecutive years. The CD/concert, which grows annually, is a vehicle for original bands to showcase and play their material.

Ever since Franklin and vocalist/guitarist DeLaran rocked their first gig in Washington, D.C., they and their band mates have been contributing to Sarasota’s social and music landscape by helping other artists perform. The group’s mission: to start a “spiritual revolution” through song, and tunes such as “Wake!” and “(The Answer is) Why” exemplify that goal. ESD released the funk-heavy album, “A Note to the Alchemist” in 2008. The six-piece has performed throughout the tri-county area and in various cities nationwide.
