Event celebrates the creative process

The Manatee Players’s newest production, the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sunday in the Park With George,” is all about art and creativity, and the theater is teaming up with ArtCenter Manatee to give patrons a slightly different view of the creative process.

The two organizations are presenting Art After Dark, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday Sept. 26 at the theater. Five artists will create original paintings, but they won’t be doing it alone.

Each artist will start a painting and after a short time, pass it to another, until all the artists have made some contribution to all five pieces. Each painting will be auctioned during the event, with the winners revealed during the intermission.

The artists involved are S. Rush Dean, Jamie Friedli, Julie Hanson, Cecy Richardson and Carolyn Ritter.

The painting and pre-show reception begin at 5:30 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m at the Manatee Players, 102 Old Main St., Bradenton. Tickets are $40 and are available at ArtCenter Manatee, 746-2862; artcentermanatee.org or the Manatee Players, 748-5875; manateeplayers.com.
