Make the Super Bowl spectacular with craft beer

/

Sunday is the Super Bowl, and it's a perfect opportunity to trade up to better beer.

You don't have to serve or bring something crazy to the party, but instead of drinking the same old boring, tasteless beer, why not try something with flavor and character?

And to further narrow things down, may I suggest drinking American beer during this very American event?

But what to drink?

Instead of the typical Bud Light or Budweiser, try a craft lager like Full Sail Session Lager, Brooklyn Lager, Anchor Steam, Kona Longboat Lager or Sam Adams Light. All of these are pretty easy to come by in Sarasota-Manatee, with the Full Sail being a bit harder to find -- try Whole Foods or Total Wine & More.

If you're heading out, try watching the game at a place that sells craft beer, like The Shamrock, World of Beer, Mr. Beery's or the Sarasota Brewing Co., to name a few off the top of my head.

Have a great Sunday and go [insert your team name here]!

Big fan of the Full Sail. A good variety of it can be found at Total Wine off University both by individual bottles and six pack. I've also seen it at the Publix on University and Tuttle. The Amber is my fav. Brooklyn Lager is also outstanding.

Cheers, mate!

Celebrate New Orleans in the Super Bowl by purchasing Abita beers. Locally you can find Jockamo IPA, Amber [best bet for non-craft beer drinkers] Turbodog [brown ale (think Newcastle Brown Ale)], Purple Haze [raspberry-wheat (not for me)].

Also available is Dixie which was once in New Orleans but was wipeout by Katrina and now is contract brewed [last heard] by Joseph Huber Brewing, in Monroe, Wisc. Dixie is more a regional than a craft beer [think Falstaff (if you are of an age)]

Thought to add.

I created a maps.Google 'my map' which illustrates the brewery locations of 'US Craft Beer Available in SWFla Dec2009' Ya'll may find it useful. see:

It is private rather than public so that it does not get mucked up.

I am associated a restaurant [Venti's Cafe] in Salem, Ore., which is the best purveyor of craft beer in that city [which is in the heart of Beervana].

I thought about blogging about an Oregon beer geek's experience with the Beer-Here. Perhaps next winter.
